Updated: Mar 22, 2023

Carmen Tal is a Moroccan-born hairdresser and entrepreneur who is best known as the founder of the hair care brand MoroccanOil. Born in Casablanca, Morocco, Tal moved to Israel in the 1960s and eventually settled in Montreal, Canada.

Tal began her career as a hairdresser, working in various salons in Montreal. In the 1990s, she visited Israel and was introduced to Argan oil, a precious oil extracted from the kernels of the Argan tree found only in southwestern Morocco. She was impressed by the oil's benefits on her own hair, which had been damaged by years of styling and coloring.

Inspired by the transformative power of Argan oil, Tal returned to Montreal and began working on developing a line of hair care products that would feature the oil as a key ingredient. In 2008, she launched MoroccanOil, which quickly gained a loyal following among beauty enthusiasts and professionals.

Under Tal's leadership, MoroccanOil has become a leading hair care brand, known for its use of natural ingredients, commitment to sustainability, and dedication to creating high-quality products that help people achieve healthy, beautiful hair. Tal has also been a strong advocate for women's rights and empowerment, and MoroccanOil works closely with the women's cooperatives in Morocco that produce Argan oil, providing them with fair wages and economic opportunities.

Tal's success as an entrepreneur and businesswoman has been widely recognized. She has received numerous awards, including the Women in Business Award from the National Association of Women Business Owners, and has been featured in publications such as Forbes and The New York Times.

Overall, Carmen Tal is a visionary entrepreneur who has made a significant impact on the beauty industry with her innovative use of Argan oil in hair care products. Her dedication to sustainability and women's empowerment has also helped to create positive social and economic change, both in Morocco and around the world.
